Discover Body's Intolerance Here

It isn’t summer without a cold treat. Whether you’re more of an ice cream fan or a popsicle kind of person, the good news is you can still enjoy a frozen treat while sticking to your nutrition goals.

Here are 5 healthier frozen dessert options to satisfy any craving!

1. If you’re craving real ice cream: Breyers Ice Cream Snack Cups

Oftentimes, the hardest part about ice cream is portion-control. These Bryers Ice Cream Snack Cups make it easy for you with these individual portion-sized ice cream cups.

Each cup contains 3 ounces of ice cream and comes in either chocolate or vanilla.

Each ice cream cup has 100 calories, 5 grams of fat, 3.5 grams of saturated fat, 11-13 grams of carbs, and 10-11 grams of sugar (8-9 grams of added sugars).

These are a great way to still enjoy the flavor and texture of traditional ice cream, but in a portion-controlled package.

Plus, the ingredient list is pretty impressive as well, containing just six ingredients in the vanilla version and seven for the chocolate.

2. If you want several flavors of ice cream bars: Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt Products

Yasso is one of my go-to brands for when I’m in the mood for something cold and sweet.

All of their products are made from a base of nonfat milk and Greek yogurt to create a lower-calorie treat that’s still nice and creamy.

Plus, with over 18 flavors, there’s bound to be at least one product that satisfies your craving.

Their original line of frozen Greek yogurt bars have between 80-140 calories per bar, with most flavors hovering around 100 calories. They also contain 5-6 grams of protein.

While not super low in sugar, most bars have around 9 to 10 grams of added sugars, which isn’t bad for a dessert.

Yasso also recently expanded their products to include a line of chocolate-coated bars, which are around 140-160 calories and still provide about 5 grams of protein and 9 to 10 grams of added sugars.

3-4. If you’re looking for a dairy-free ice cream alternative: Nada Moo or Cado Avocado Ice Cream

Whether you’re lactose-intolerant, vegan, plant-based, or just looking for something different, Nada Mood and Cado Avocado Ice Cream are two of the healthier non-dairy options.

Nada Moo
Nada Moo is a coconut milk-based frozen treat that comes in a variety of classic flavors, like Rocky Road and Mint Chip, as well as some not-so traditional ones, like Marshmallow Stardust and Peach Cobbler.

While they are higher in saturated fat due to the coconut milk, most of their products are impressively low in added sugars, are free of sugar substitutes, and are high in fiber.

For example, a 2/3 cup serving of their Cookies & Creme has 180 calories, 9 grams of fat, 7 grams of saturated fat, 22 grams of carbs, 6 grams of fiber, 13 grams of total sugar (including just 5 grams of added sugar), and 1 gram of protein.

Cado Avocado Ice Cream
Cado is the first commercial avocado-based frozen treat brand and offers a range of flavors from Deep Dark Chocolate to Simply Lemon.

Unlike Nada Moo, Cado’s use of avocados instead of coconut milk results in a product that’s low in saturated fat and high in healthier monounsaturated fats.

While they currently don’t list the amount of added sugar, the total sugar content is lower than many traditional ice creams.

It’s also great that their ingredient lists tend to be on the short side and are free of artificial flavorings and colorings.

A 1/2 cup serving of Cado’s Java-Chip provides 170 calories, 11 grams of fat, 1.5 grams of saturated fat, 18 grams of carbs, 1 gram of fiber, 12 grams of sugar, and 1 gram of protein.

5. If you want to make your own healthier ice cream: Mango or Chocolate Nice Cream

Don’t feel like going to the store? You can also make your own healthier, fruit-based frozen treat at home.

Nice cream – a.k.a banana ice cream — is made by blending frozen bananas with a milk alternative of choice. A general rule of thumb is 1-2 tablespoons of milk per 1 frozen banana.

Also keep in mind that slicing your banana before freezing it will make blending your nice cream even easier!
