Let’s explore five yoga poses that are great for relieving stress. Stress is a common issue that many of us face on a daily basis, and it can have a negative impact on our mental and physical health. Fortunately, yoga offers a range of poses that can help to reduce stress levels and promote relaxation.
Child’s Pose (Balasana)

Child’s pose is a gentle, restorative pose that can help to calm the mind and reduce stress. To perform this pose, start on your hands and knees, with your hands positioned slightly in front of your shoulders. Lower your hips back towards your heels and extend your arms forward, resting your forehead on the ground. Take slow, deep breaths and allow your body to relax into the pose.

Forward Fold (Uttanasana)

Forward fold is another great yoga pose for stress relief. To perform this pose, stand with your feet hip-distance apart and fold forward from the hips, bringing your hands towards the ground or to your shins. Allow your head and neck to relax and breathe deeply, focusing on the sensation of the stretch in the back of your legs.

Downward Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana)

Downward facing dog is a popular yoga pose that can help to relieve stress and tension in the body. To perform this pose, start on your hands and knees, with your hands positioned slightly in front of your shoulders. Curl your toes under and lift your hips up and back, coming into an inverted V-shape. Take slow, deep breaths and focus on lengthening through your spine and opening up through your chest.

Cat/Cow Pose (Marjaryasana/Bitilasana)

Cat/cow pose is a gentle, flowing sequence that can help to release tension in the spine and promote relaxation. To perform this pose, start on your hands and knees, with your hands positioned slightly in front of your shoulders. Inhale and arch your back, lifting your head and tailbone towards the ceiling (cow pose). Exhale and round your spine, tucking your chin towards your chest and drawing your tailbone towards your knees (cat pose). Repeat the sequence for several breaths, moving slowly and with awareness.

Legs up the Wall (Viparita Karani)

Legs up the wall is a restorative yoga pose that can help to calm the nervous system and reduce stress levels. To perform this pose, sit with your left side facing a wall, with your knees bent and your feet flat on the ground. Lie back and swing your legs up the wall, resting your hips against the base of the wall. Take slow, deep breaths and allow your body to relax into the pose.

Incorporating these five yoga poses into your daily routine can be a great way to reduce stress levels and promote relaxation. Remember to listen to your body and move slowly, with awareness and intention. With consistent practice, you may find that these poses become an essential part of your stress management toolkit.
